Biography

Lecturer Sr
Harrington Department of Bioengineering
Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering

Coursen's Ph.D. is from the University of Arizona College of Medicine. The emphasis of his research was primarily in neuroscience. In particular he was interested in the anatomy, physiology and biochemistry of the mouse locus coeruleus. After obtaining his doctorate Cousen performed his postdoctoral work at Harvard Medical School, in the department of Neuropathology. After finishing the post doctorate he left academic medicine and found himself working in health care (Human Resources, Orgaizational Development, and Employee Education) as a corporate executive at Samaritan Health System. While working in health care he took on the responsibility to instruct bioengineers in the discipline of human/animal physiology and anatomy along side with Dr. James Sweeney. Recently Coursen joined the department as a full time professor with the goal of refining a curriculum that will continue to focus on the the education of bioengineers in all facets of practical medicine.
